On April 26, 2006, Schattdecor will be celebrating the opening of its new decor printing plant in São José dos Pinhais with employees and 200 guests. The first reel of decor paper was produced by the factory on February 22, 2006, a mere 16 months after the foundation stone had been laid.
Schattdecor originally became involved in Brazil in April 1999, when it established a sales office in Curitiba. Two years later it purchased a 83,000-square-metre plot of land for a factory in São José dos Pinhais, a 228,000-inhabitant city about 15 km from Curitiba, the capital of the state of Paraná. Curitiba has 1.6 million inhabitants and is one of Brazil's most important economic centres alongside Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
Decor paper production was begun by Schattdecor on the Brazilian market with the acquisition of the Pertech decor printing plant in Embu on July 1, 2003. The purchase was followed by a process in which Schattdecor got to know the Brazilian mentality and the employees became acquainted with the Schattdecor approach. Now that production has been relocated from Embu to São José dos Pinhais, this process of mutual adjustment is proving its worth, as the majority of the workers have also made the move, thus ensuring the smooth transition of production operations.
This made it possible for the 44 employees and the two directors Roberto Waack and Michael Then to print their first reel of decor paper at the new factory on February 22, a mere 16 months after the laying of the foundation stone on November 4, 2004.
This proud achievement was preceded by a gradual change-over of the source materials, a process that had begun with entry into the Brazilian market in 2003, to ensure that they meet Schattdecor's quality standards for all its worldwide factories.
The new plant will thus be supplying customers in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and other Latin American countries with many best-selling decors and bespoke finish foil products in Made by Schattdecor quality for use in furniture and laminate flooring.
A Rotodecor printing press equipped with five print units and capable of printing webs of up to 225 cm in width stands in the 6,700-square-metre press hall, enabling customers to choose from a selection of over 800 decors. The 12,500-square-metre factory also has a heavy-duty lacquering unit to provide decor paper in a wide range of finishes, and will thus be able to meet all the market's requirements.
When the new factory is inaugurated on April 26, 2006, the 200 or so invited guests will be able to form an impression of their own of the modern decor printing plant and its beautifully laid-out grounds.
