Following acquisition in December 2005 of a 100 percent interest in Prismadecor, a decor printing and lacquering plant located in Głuchołazy, Poland, the management board of Schattdecor AG resolved to modernise the Polish production facility from the ground up. At the same time, the decision was also taken to discontinue decor printing operations at the plant, with the result that Prismadecor now obtains decor paper from its affiliate in Tarnowo Podgórne, Poland, and from the Schattdecor parent plant in Thansau, Germany. 
In drawing up the plans for the modernisation of the factory, particular attention was paid to optimising its lacquering operations in response to increasingly stringent market demands. The first stage in the investment project was tackled last autumn, when construction began on a new 2,000-square-metre production hall. The building has since been completed, whereby care has been taken to merge its façade with those of neighbouring 19th century buildings. 
To enable transportation of lacquered finish foil reels out of the weather, an enclosed linkway has also been erected between the production area and the warehouse.
In the meantime, the second stage of the project – installation of a new lacquering line designed and produced by Rotodecor, Schattdecor's machine building subsidiary of Bad Salzuflen, Germany – has also been brought to a close; installation was completed by early May 2007, and following a brief period of trial runs, the unit took up work shortly after.  As a result, Prismadecor now has two high-performance lacquering lines at its disposal, thus increasing respective capacity quite significantly. The new line lacquers finish foil at widths of up to 2750 mm and is also capable of handling so-called double lacquering in a single process, which is of particular importance in jobs requiring an IKEA R4 finish. 
The new production hall and lacquering line are among the most important modernisation measures at Prismadecor, and guarantee customers state-of-the-art finish foil production. In other words, the Polish plant is well equipped to satisfy European demand for innovative finish foil products.
