Fashion, furniture and consumer electronics are tending towards puristic materials these days, and white is the favoured colour of the latest products involved. Standing for purity, simplicity and clarity, it is a colour that awakens positive associations in most people.
Thanks to its neutrality, white is an ideal choice for the home as it harmonises with all colours and is superb in combinations with other hues. It is particularly dramatic in connection with black and dark brown, and unusual effects can be obtained by using it along with expressive decors – in other words, white and woodgrain decors are always a perfect match.
Wherever cool white hues and clear lines set the tone, decors with natural-looking textures and colours are an excellent way of introducing emotion and individuality.
The floor plan of the home of tomorrow
New developments for the future are emerging in home planning and design. Space has become a precious asset, yet there is a desire for a new generosity in residential interiors.
New solutions for the future are being found in the form of open-plan architecture that enables a modular organisation of space and furnishings. The increasingly open style of interior architecture will call forth a demand for design that satisfies the natural need for warmth and seclusion.
The distinctions between individual living areas will blur: kitchens, living rooms and studies will merge, and bathrooms and bedrooms will come to form a single whole devoted to repose and regeneration.
COOK
Kitchens are experiencing a renaissance as the central point of home life and communication. Cooking has become a way of celebrating friendship and social bonds, with family members and friends gathering together in the residential kitchen to cook, dine and linger. For this reason, modern kitchen furniture has become more open in design and offers versatile elements that can be organised into highly professional arrangements for all kinds of work processes. Broad fronts with a horizontal emphasis make today's kitchens expansive and sophisticated in feel, complete with ingeniously integrated technical details. Kitchen design is also becoming more residential in character, as evidenced by sideboards and shelf elements that recall dining and living room furniture.
Lively and expressive decors in sapwood, heartwood or exotic hardwood are an excellent complement to the clear and cool lines of modern kitchens. Stone decors come either in natural hues or black and white interpretations in line with current trends.
Nero Marquina
Based on the Spanish limestone Nero Marquina, this deep black decor with white calcite veining is ideal for giving kitchens a stylish and timeless look. Thanks to its simple elegance, it combines well with striking woodgrain decors.
Imabari Oak
Imabari Oak comes with a chalked and rough-hewn look, yet despite this rusticality creates a light and subtle impression. The 3D print effect is underscored by the coarse grain as well as typical oak details such as medullary rays, vague knotting and stripey-grained sections that alternate with areas of figuring.
MEET
The significance accorded residential space is changing – the days of the separate living room have become a thing of the past. In new interior architecture, the living room of old is often planned as a continuum of the kitchen and dining room. This change has naturally had a distinct effect on the design of furniture, which now has to fulfil various use requirements and can thus be used to coordinate several activities at once.
Natural-looking fine-grained wood is particularly suited to this approach, along with fantasy decors in warm hues such as orange, red, leaf green, cream and greyish-beige. Folklore patterns go well in combination with the woodgrains.
Hiddensee Beech
Offering natural colouring and the interesting stains and pronounced streaking typical of heartwood, Hiddensee Beech is in line with the unabated trend towards authentic-looking woodgrains. The decor makes an interesting effect both in the very pale hues of modern beech and in warm heartwood tones, and its highly natural, lively character makes it suitable for many applications.
Sylvenstein Maple
Sylvenstein Maple is a striking heartwood decor. Thanks to details such as knots, wood stains, distinct figuring and pronounced contrasts, it offers all the characteristics of heartwood maple.
WORK
There is no stopping the advance of PCs in private interiors, whereby these days less and less space is required for the laptops and multifunctional devices in such wide use. A small work corner in the living area is an ideal solution, and since PCs no longer need to hold centre stage or make a prestigious effect, such places can be comfortable and functional. Accordingly, there is a need for work furniture that merges in with home interiors while being utilitarian in style. The materials involved need to be varied and capable of integration into the overall style of the living space. Woodgrain decors in calm, harmonious and straight-grained interpretations are ideal, along with fantasy decors offering a restrained texture and cool colours.
Coburg Oak
With its narrow sections of splintwood, Coburg Oak is a new interpretation of a classic woodgrain, whereby the fine poring and slight movement of the predominantly straight-grained texture give it a clean and modern look. Occasional slip matches add a lively touch.
Atami Bamboo
Fine bamboo strips and attractive colouration are the main characteristics of this decor.
SLEEP
These days, bedrooms are characterised by unusual design objects and surprising details and are increasingly becoming places for peace and relaxation, with comfortable loungers, mood lighting and sophisticated wall solutions turning them into sanctuaries of peace that invite daytime use. Once bathrooms and bedrooms merge in this way, the resulting space will be a place for relaxation and regeneration within the interior environment.
Woodgrain decors in a palette of dark and mystic grey hues lend themselves to the new bedroom approach. All shades of purple, from aubergine to lilac, are the colours used for accessories.
Salisbury Oak
American oak acted as the inspiration for Salisbury Oak, a decor that comes in varied planking widths in which particularly conspicuous pores underscore the straight-grained material. The decor also lends itself to a foil version featuring chemically induced real pores.
Letra
On closer inspection, this decor reveals itself to be a reproduction of scribbled writing. Versatile in its possibilities for colouration, it can be put to varied uses. Rendered in white against a dark background for example, it is restrained and elegant in effect, while stronger colour contrasts create a more striking and conspicuous impression.
PLAY
Modern children's rooms keep pace with the development of their occupants, and can gradually be altered into a teenage space. Thanks to flexible furniture modules that adapt as children get older, today's kids' rooms are optimally attuned to changing needs. All types of materials, both used and new, are combined in a creative new statement.
Pale and subtle woodgrains are used in this style, while cheerful, bright hues and pastel tones signal the return of a new fascination with colour. Red, violet and pink are extremely popular along with pale grey and yellowish-green.
Stromberg Maple
Stromberg Maple is a very natural-looking decor with a striking and lively appearance. The knots, stains, straight-grained sections and other details are typical of the heartwood of the woodgrain.
Filo
An ornamental decor featuring tendrils and leaves picked out in silver wire for a three-dimensional effect. In dark, mystic colours it is suitable for residential and sleeping quarters, while a version in bright and cheerful hues predestines it for nursery rooms.
