This March, Schattdecor acted as the main sponsor of the Designer's Choice Awards initiated by the Southeast Asian particleboard manufacturer MIECO. The awards, which have been created to familiarise young furniture designers with creative uses of melamine-coated wood-based products, are conferred during the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF), the country's most important furniture expo.
In the respective contest, creative young people are provided decor-paper-covered chipboard as their basic material and without any particular design brief are asked to design furniture for various home and work situations.
The jury, which is made up of noted art and interior decoration experts, appraises the entries for their originality, creativity and functionality.
Apart from the interesting opportunity to present their designs at the MIFF and make international contacts, the winners of the various categories in the 2008 awards were able to claim cash prizes as well as a visit to the renowned Milan Furniture Show in April.
For Schattdecor, sponsoring the event provided it the possibility to not only foster aspiring young designers in Malaysia but also draw attention to its decor expertise at the presentation of the winning entries.
At the awards ceremony, Florian Hauswirth, Schattdecor's Export Manager for Southeast Asia, accepted a commemorative medal on behalf of Schattdecor from MIECO Executive Director Datò Yong and the Malaysian state secretary in acknowledgement of the company's role in this year's Director's Choice Awards.
