Focus on Sustainability

For small production runs, digital printing eliminates make-ready costs and the need for cylinder production. The ability to adapt designs during the printing process can also improve material utilization. We print with lightfast inks based on natural raw materials, helping reduce inventory, overproduction, and waste.

Frequently Asked Questions About Digital Printing
How does Schattdecor’s digital printing work?

Digital printing refers to a group of printing processes in which the print image is transferred directly from a computer to a printing press – without requiring a fixed printing form (cylinder), unlike in rotogravure printing. This allows for very quick design changes. Schattdecor operates both multipass and single-pass systems: In multipass systems, the print head (carriage) passes over the substrate multiple times; in single-pass systems, the printing unit remains stationary and the substrate passes through the machine in a single pass at a higher speed.

Is digital printing also possible for small quantities at Schattdecor?

Yes. Schattdecor prints designs using digital printing processes ranging from small batches to industrial volumes. This makes digital printing particularly cost-effective for special motifs, custom projects, and small batches that would be disproportionately expensive to produce using gravure printing.

What level of quality does Schattdecor offer in digital printing?

At Schattdecor, you can expect consistently high-quality standards regardless of the printing process – across all locations.

Yes! That’s one of the key advantages of Schattdecor. The ink systems for both printing processes are coordinated in such a way that a seamless transition is possible under certain conditions. A design that starts with digital printing can thus transition to industrial mass production via gravure printing – without any loss of quality. Your sales contact at Schattdecor will provide you with personalized advice on this.

For which applications and industries is Schattdecor’s digital printing particularly well-suited?

Schattdecor digital printing supports the entire lifecycle of a project, from initial small batches and custom designs to industrial-scale production. It opens new possibilities for long repeats of up to 5.6 meters without visible repetition, unique custom designs, and applications across transportation, retail, hospitality, and other commercial environments. We recommend the printing process best suited to the specific requirements of each project rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

What sets Schattdecor apart from other decorative printing providers when it comes to digital printing?

It’s not the equipment that makes the difference, but the people behind it. At Schattdecor, experienced experts provide honest guidance and recommend the printing process best suited to your project. You also benefit from flexibility in order quantities, gravure-level color separation, seamless production processes, and a dedicated point of contact.

Who should I contact at Schattdecor regarding digital printing?

Please feel free to reach out to your usual Schattdecor contact. If you don’t yet have a personal contact, you can find our digital printing experts here.

In what file format and color system should I submit my decor data to Schattdecor for digital printing?

Please submit your data as a print-ready version whenever possible. Image files must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi (e.g., as TIFF or PSD); vector files should be submitted in EPS, PDF, AI, or SVG format. Please provide separated files as individual colors in grayscale or as AVA files; submit unseparated data in the RGB or CMYK color system. For large files, use a file transfer link – your contact at Schattdecor will be happy to assist you with this.

What is Schattdecor’s digital printing speed?

With our production equipment, we achieve speeds up to 162 meters per minute in digital printing.

What paper widths and types does Schattdecor process in digital printing?

Schattdecor processes paper widths up to a maximum gross web width of 2.05 m in digital printing. This means the same widths are available as those used in gravure printing. We adjust the paper widths according to customer requirements. The paper types used comply with common industry standards, such as the HPL standard EN 438.

What inks does Schattdecor use in its digital printing process?

Schattdecor uses digital printing inks that are specifically matched to the gravure printing ink system.

How does digital printing work?

Digital printing refers to a group of printing processes in which the print image is transferred directly from a computer to a printing press without the use of a static printing plate.

Unlike in rotogravure printing, for example, digital printing does not require a fixed printing form (cylinder), which allows for very quick design changes. At Schattdecor, we operate multipass and single-pass systems. The main difference lies in the speed and the movement of the print head. While in digital multipass systems the print head (or print carriage) passes over the substrate to be printed multiple times, the print unit in single-pass systems remains stationary while the substrate travels through the machine at a higher speed.
