Design & decor development

Creating appealing surfaces is crucial for designing successful interiors: they define the style of furniture, panels, and floor coverings. Our decors are the result of seamless collaboration across various departments. The International Design Team at Schattdecor and our Decor Development Department continuously identify emerging trends through rigorous analysis to create innovate designs for our clients.

To initiate the development of our decors, we create high-resolution digital artwork from scans of the original materials. These unique, high-quality images serve as the foundation for our decor designs, meticulously prepared for either rotogravure or digital printing processes.

Discover how global materials, such as wood, stone, fabrics, and metals, inspire us and serve as the catalyst for numerous decor concepts.

The printing processes at Schattdecor

We produce decors for our customers using both rotogravure and digital printing processes. In each method, we use  fade-resistant and environmentally friendly printing inks made from natural raw materials. The printed substrates—decor papers, overlays, PP, and PVC foils—are subsequently utilized in the processing industry for aesthetic surface design. These substrates serve as imitations of wood and stone or as fantasy decors for surface design in the furniture, flooring, and interior design sectors.

Classic: rotogravure printing

In rotogravure printing, engraved cylinders transfer premixed inks to the paper via a printing roller. Up to four cylinders are used for particularly complex patterns. We ensure consistent, high-quality standards worldwide by using identical production machines and work processes.

Digital printing! A milestone in technology

Digital printing is the ideal complement to gravure printing, supports the economically sustainable product cycle in a customer- and demand-oriented manner, and allows room for innovative projects and designs.

We offer our customers digital printing in industrial batch sizes with up to ten colors as standard and can produce on an industrial scale in a width of 2.25 meters. In contrast to rotogravure printing, we are no longer limited by cylinder dimensions in digital printing, which means that large formats with a print length of up to five meters are possible without repetition.

The minimum order quantity is 250 kilograms or 4,000 square meters per decor and color.

Impregnated products

The impregnation process gives the printed decor paper a melamine resin coating using an immersion method. Thanks to our comprehensive technological know-how, our customers can achieve an exceptionally durable surface finish for furniture, countertops, interior fittings, and flooring.

Lacquering

During the lacquering process, printed papers of varying grammages or pre-impregnated papers, are coated with a fine layer of lacquer. This allows us to achieve a range of optical and haptic effects and to offer innovative and durable surface finishes tailored to your specific needs. Click here to explore our finish foils!
